As a Senior II Software Engineer on our Auth team, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the core authentication systems for the Bitwarden clients - web, desktop, browser extension, CLI, and mobile apps. The Auth team owns code in our Angular clients, our shared Rust core, and our IdentityServer and API back-end, supporting password, SSO, passkey, and other authentication methods, as well as our 2FA and account management.  A candidate for this position should have very strong skills in Rust and Angular, working in complex and multi-client applications, as well as excellent communication and technical writing abilities.

This is an all-remote team and we’re looking for someone located in the U.S. We do not offer visa sponsorship at this time. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build and maintain our authentication code in our shared Rust core library, Angular clients, and IdentityServer back-end
  • Scope and refine upcoming initiatives, working collaboratively across teams to design, document, and communicate forward-looking solutions
  • Contribute constructively in team discussions - synchronous and asynchronous - building shared understanding and driving toward actionable results
  • Provide timely, thorough, and well-reasoned code reviews
  • Triage, diagnose, and resolve bugs reported by our community and our customers
  • Update and validate core dependencies to ensure a secure and stable supply chain

WHAT YOU BRING TO BITWARDEN

  • Extensive experience developing in Angular/.NET experience a strong plus
  • Familiarity with integrating Rust into other clients using WASM and UNIFFI bindings
  • Understanding of modern web authentication concepts (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, WebAuthn)
  • Experience working with Claude/LLMs or an openness to learn how to work the technology
  • Strong technical writing skills and the ability to clearly communicate complex problems
  • Attention to detail; we take our responsibility for authenticating our users very seriously
  • Knowledge of modern encryption techniques and principles of secure development are a plus
  • Collaborative and adaptable mindset
  • Openness and authenticity combined with excellent communication skills
  • Excitement and enthusiasm for open source and for better internet security 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills – you might not know all the answers, but you know how to find and communicate the solution

In the United States, the starting base compensation range for this role is $180,000 - $215,000. Actual compensation may vary based on level, relevant experience, and skill set as assessed in the interview process, as well as market data by location. See our careers page for a list of benefits. Please note that compensation outside the U.S. will differ based on the market.
