Senior Python Engineer (Data)

Job description

We’ve signed up to an ambitious journey. Join us!

As Arrive, we guide customers and communities towards brighter futures and more livable cities, it isn’t a challenge just anyone could take on. Luckily, we have something to help us make it happen. Our people and our values. We Arrive Curious, Focused and Together. Just as our entire brand is inspired by the North Star, the shining light leading travelers to their destinations since time began, our values guide us. They help us be at our best. For our customers. For the cities and communities we serve. For ourselves. As a global team, we are transforming urban mobility. Let’s grow better, together.

The Role

As a Senior Python Engineer, you will join our Data Science Products team to build robust backend systems and infrastructure for our machine learning products. This team ingests billions of complex sensor data points daily to produce advanced products that help millions of drivers park or charge electric vehicles. For example, we predict the availability of parking in cities across the world and provide drivers with routes that reduce the time they will spend searching for a space near their destination.

This role will be focused on designing, building, and operating data-intensive applications and infrastructure that ensure our data products are fast, reliable, and scalable. You will take ownership of our data ingestion service and work closely with other engineers and data scientists in a supportive environment.

How to make an impact

  • Deliver high-performance APIs with a focus on speed and reliability, utilizing FastAPI to serve machine learning insights.

  • Deploy and manage cloud-native services using strong AWS knowledge and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles.

  • Leverage Kafka to deliver near real time data to our machine learning models, other teams, or directly to customers.

  • Use AI throughout the software development lifecycle - we are continually evolving our working practices in this area, while ensuring systems remain reliable and maintainable.

  • Implement robust testing frameworks and system designs to maintain high code quality and service reliability.

  • Enhance the observability and performance monitoring of our production services and platform.

About you

You are a highly technical and collaborative engineer who enjoys solving complex challenges. You ensure that systems are well designed and that code is not just tested but easily testable, while remaining pragmatic about delivery. With a growth mindset, you look for ways to improve system efficiency and are eager to share your expertise in software best practices with a multidisciplinary team. You thrive when given the autonomy to own services from design through to production.

Your background

  • Extensive professional experience in Python backend development, including building and maintaining highly available backend services (FastAPI preferred) at scale.

  • Proven ability to design, build, and maintain data-intensive applications and infrastructure.

  • Deep understanding of AWS services and hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (such as AWS CDK, Terraform or Pulumi) and containerization (Docker and AWS ECS/Kubernetes).

  • Experience with Kafka.

  • Experience working alongside data scientists in the "PyData" ecosystem (Numpy, Pandas) is desirable.

Familiarity with some of the other tools in our stack is desirable:

  • Redis

  • Postgres

  • Airflow

  • Spark

This is a hybrid role based in London, UK.
