Job description

About GridCARE

GridCARE is building software for one of the hardest infrastructure problems of the AI era: finding real, reliable capacity on an increasingly constrained electric grid. Data centers, electrification, and new energy projects are creating urgent demand for power, while traditional grid upgrades and interconnection processes can take years.

Our platform combines physics-based grid modeling, AI-assisted workflows, and modern product engineering to help utilities, data center developers, and energy infrastructure teams evaluate grid constraints and move projects forward without compromising reliability. Founded at Stanford's Doerr School and backed by leading investors in energy and AI, GridCARE is working with major technology, data center, and utility partners to accelerate access to power.

About the Role

This is a hands-on senior full-stack role for an engineer who can independently take features from requirements through production, iterate closely with product and UX partners, and make thoughtful technical tradeoffs.

You will own features end to end, from interactive workflows and data-rich interfaces to supporting services, API integrations, and data models. You will work mostly through product managers and UX partners who represent customer needs, while collaborating with backend, data, AI, and power systems teams.

What You'll Do

  • Own customer-facing product experiences for grid capacity analysis, project planning, and infrastructure decision workflows.

  • Build and extend backend-for-frontend services and contribute to API design.

  • Work with FastAPI services, PostgreSQL-backed data models, and internal platform systems to bring product features end to end.

  • Partner with product managers and UX designers to translate customer needs into fast iterations and shipped product improvements.

  • Collaborate with backend, data, AI, and power systems teams to turn complex technical outputs into clear, reliable product experiences.

Qualifications

Required

  • 4-6+ years of experience building and shipping production web applications.

  • Strong experience with TypeScript and modern frontend frameworks such as Next.js, React, Vite-based applications, or similar.

  • Experience integrating frontend applications with backend APIs and backend-for-frontend patterns.

  • Comfortable working with Python/FastAPI or similar backend frameworks, and with relational databases such as PostgreSQL.

  • Built data-intensive product experiences where correctness, performance, and usability all matter.

  • Ability to clarify ambiguous requirements, make thoughtful tradeoffs, and ship useful increments quickly.

Preferred

  • Geospatial interfaces, map-based products, network visualization, or scientific/data visualization.

  • AI/ML product workflows, model-output review, simulation results, optimization, or time-series data.

  • Energy, utilities, power systems, grid planning, interconnection, or data center infrastructure.

  • Exposure in early-stage products where requirements change as the team learns from users.

What We Offer

  • A high-ownership role building customer-facing software for real infrastructure decisions.

  • The chance to work at the intersection of AI, energy, geospatial data, and modern product engineering.

  • A collaborative, early-stage environment where quick iteration and long-term technical judgment both matter.

  • Competitive salary, equity, and a comprehensive benefits package.

  • Hybrid schedule in Redwood City: 3 days in office for collaboration, 2 days remote for focused work, plus catered lunches and snacks.

Our Philosophy

We believe small teams of strong engineers can solve important, real-world infrastructure problems. We value clear thinking, strong ownership, pragmatic execution, and systems that hold up in production. If you're excited about the intersection of energy, infrastructure, and modern SaaS we'd love to talk.
