Job Description
Saronic Technologies is a leader in revolutionizing defense autonomy at sea, dedicated to developing state-of-the-art solutions that enhance maritime operations for the Department of Defense (DoD) through autonomous and intelligent platforms.

Position Overview:
We are looking for a skilled and highly motivated Marine Structural Engineer to join our team in designing and optimizing the structural systems of our autonomous surface vessels. This is a hands-on role where you will be responsible for the integrity and performance of the vessel’s structure, ensuring it meets rigorous DoD standards. The ideal candidate will have expertise in marine engineering, naval architecture, and materials science, with a strong background in structural analysis and design of military-grade vessels.
Responsibilities
  • Design & Analysis: Lead the design, analysis, and optimization of structural components of autonomous surface vessels, ensuring compliance with DoD standards and military requirements.
  • Structural Integrity: Conduct structural assessments and simulations to guarantee the safety, stability, and durability of vessel designs under various environmental and operational conditions.
  • Materials Selection: Collaborate with materials engineers to select optimal materials for vessel construction, balancing weight, strength, corrosion resistance, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the systems, propulsion, and electrical engineering teams to ensure the integration of structural elements with other vessel systems.
  • Prototyping & Testing: Oversee the prototyping and testing of new designs, analyzing performance and making iterative improvements based on real-world data and feedback.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that designs comply with relevant military standards, safety regulations, and environmental considerations.
  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the continuous improvement of vessel design processes and engineering practices, introducing innovations in structural engineering techniques.
  • Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in marine structural design and analysis, particularly in the development of military-grade vessels, autonomous systems, or high-performance maritime platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of marine structural engineering principles, including fatigue, material science, hydrodynamics, and load-bearing analysis.
  • Proficiency with structural design software (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus, Nastran, Rhino, ShipConstructor).
  • Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for structural and hydrodynamic modeling.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations for marine vessel design and military specifications (e.g., MIL-STD, ABS, DNV GL).
  • Familiarity with naval vessel construction techniques and materials for harsh environments.
  • Understanding of the Department of Defense (DoD) acquisition process and military contract requirements.
  • Ability to manage complex projects and work collaboratively in a fast-paced, startup environment.
  • Experience with autonomous vessels, unmanned systems, or robotics is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
