Job description

Who We Are

Oportun (Nasdaq: OPRT) is a mission-driven financial services company that puts its members' financial goals within reach. With intelligent borrowing, savings, and budgeting capabilities, Oportun empowers members with the confidence to build a better financial future. Since inception, Oportun has provided more than $22.7 billion in responsible and affordable credit, saved its members more than $2.5 billion in interest and fees, and helped its members set aside an average of more than $1,800 annually.

The Opportunity

Are you a data-driven lifecycle marketer with a passion for customer engagement and the technical chops to strengthen and scale customer lifecycle marketing capabilities? We're looking for a Lifecycle Marketing Manager to join our powerhouse team and lead lifecycle strategy and execution across Oportun's product ecosystem and key member moments. You will define and execute programs across email, push, SMS, in-app, and emerging channels to drive activation, engagement, retention, product adoption, and long-term customer value.

You are responsible for both strategy and execution. This includes prioritizing lifecycle initiatives across products, ensuring campaigns run reliably, and continuously improving performance through testing, segmentation, personalization, and marketing technology enhancements. You will work cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Legal, Compliance, Marketing, and Marketing Technology to deliver timely, compliant, and effective communications. You will also manage dependencies, resolve blockers, and translate business needs into clear data, platform, and execution requirements.

This role will also help advance Oportun's CLM technology capabilities. You will identify and implement opportunities such as new channel expansion, custom event integrations, improved customer data flows, AI-assisted campaign workflows, and automation that makes the CLM program more scalable, personalized, and efficient.

Success in this role means improving key lifecycle metrics across products, building scalable systems, strengthening CLM platform capabilities, and ensuring lifecycle marketing is a reliable, tech-enabled growth lever for the business.

If you're a hands-on marketer with a passion for strategic thinking, lifecycle marketing execution, data-driven decision-making, marketing technology, and customer engagement, we'd love to hear from you.

At Oportun, we move fast and we hold each other to a high bar. If you care about doing your best work while actually moving the needle for real people, you'll fit right in.

What You'll Do

Your day-to-day

  • You’ll own and optimize the lifecycle roadmap across onboarding, activation, engagement, retention, product adoption, and cross-product growth.
  • You’ll build, launch, and optimize multi-channel campaigns across email, push, SMS, in-app, and emerging channels.
  • You’ll use customer data, behavioral signals, product events, segmentation, and personalization to deliver timely and relevant member experiences.
  • You’ll design and improve automated lifecycle journeys that support onboarding, activation, feature adoption, servicing, engagement, and retention.
  • You’ll lead structured experimentation, including A/B and holdout testing, to measure incremental impact and improve performance.
  • You’ll partner with Product, Engineering, Analytics, Data, Design, Content, Legal, Compliance, and Marketing Technology to align priorities and deliver new capabilities.
  • You’ll translate lifecycle needs into clear technical requirements, event definitions, data requirements, use cases, and implementation priorities.
  • You’ll help advance Oportun’s CLM technology capabilities through new channels, custom events, improved data flows, platform enhancements, and automation.
  • You’ll identify and resolve gaps in data, tooling, integrations, or workflows that limit campaign performance or execution.
  • You’ll ensure campaigns meet high standards for QA, deliverability, consent management, data integrity, privacy, compliance, and member experience.
  • You’ll bring ideas for how we can do things better, proactively, not just when asked.
  • You’ll look for practical ways to use AI to improve campaign development, analysis, personalization, QA, reporting, and workflow efficiency.

Who You Are

The right fit looks like this

You’re a customer-focused lifecycle marketer who is equally comfortable thinking strategically and getting into the details of execution. You combine strong marketing judgment with data, technology, and experimentation to improve member experiences and business outcomes.

You’re proactive, accountable, and comfortable navigating ambiguity. You know how to influence across teams, translate business needs into actionable requirements, and maintain a high bar for quality in a regulated environment.

What You Bring

Skills & experience

Required

  • 5+ years of experience in lifecycle, CRM, retention, or customer engagement marketing.
  • Hands-on experience building and optimizing lifecycle programs using Iterable or a similar marketing automation platform such as Braze, Marketo, or Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
  • Strong knowledge of multi-channel lifecycle execution across email, push, SMS, in-app messaging, segmentation, automation, personalization, and deliverability.
  • Strong technical proficiency with HTML, CSS, and dynamic scripting or templating languages such as AMPscript, Handlebars, Liquid, or similar.
  • Proven experience improving lifecycle performance through automation, segmentation, personalization, and structured experimentation.
  • Experience partnering with technical teams on event-based triggers, data requirements, integrations, customer data flows, or platform capabilities.
  • Experience designing and analyzing A/B tests, holdouts, and incrementality measurement.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate campaign and customer data into actionable business decisions.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands and manage cross-functional dependencies.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in fintech, financial services, or another regulated industry.
  • Familiarity with APIs, custom events, event-based architectures, and customer data pipelines.
  • Experience using SQL or similar tools for campaign analysis, segmentation, or troubleshooting.
  • Experience applying AI tools to campaign development, personalization, QA, reporting, workflow automation, or customer insights.
  • Experience evaluating or implementing new CLM channels, platform capabilities, or marketing technology enhancements.
  • Experience working across multiple products or complex customer journeys.

Our AI Mindset

We build with AI. We lead with judgment.

AI isn't a feature here. It's how we work.

We're excited about what AI makes possible, and we're looking for people who share that curiosity. You don't need to be an expert. You need to be open to experimenting, willing to learn, and able to apply new tools in ways that actually move the needle.

In this role, you'll be encouraged to explore AI tools, find practical use cases for your function, and bring ideas for working smarter. We believe the best outcomes come when human judgment and AI capability work together.
