Waabi is seeking an IT Systems Administrator to join our growing IT Operations team and provide hands-on technology support for our Toronto site while helping scale IT operations across all Waabi locations.

This is a high-ownership, onsite role with a strong emphasis on Linux systems administration and networking. You will support day-to-day IT operations, manage Linux-based infrastructure and endpoints, maintain and troubleshoot office and lab networking, and partner with teams across the organization to deliver scalable, secure solutions.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver who is comfortable operating in Linux environments at the command line, is confident troubleshooting complex networking issues (switches, routing, VPNs, firewalls), and enjoys working across multiple layers of IT, from supporting engineers and managing servers, to maintaining office infrastructure and improving IT processes. You will collaborate closely with the broader IT team to provide remote support to other Waabi locations and participate in the IT Support on-call rotation.

You will…

Linux Systems & Server Administration

  • Administer, patch, and maintain Linux servers and workstations supporting engineering, R&D, and office environments

  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and configuration via standard Linux tooling and scripting (Bash/Python)

  • Support Linux-based endpoint provisioning, imaging, and configuration management for engineering and lab users

  • Monitor system health, logs, and performance, and troubleshoot Linux-specific issues across compute and networked storage

  • Maintain security hardening, patch management, and compliance for Linux systems

Networking

  • Support day-to-day network operations for the Toronto office, including switches, routers, firewalls, patch panels, and structured cabling

  • Troubleshoot wired and wireless network connectivity issues, including VLAN configuration, DNS/DHCP, and VPN access

  • Support network segmentation and security for corporate, guest, and lab/engineering network environments

  • Partner with Facilities and vendors on network buildouts, expansions, and infrastructure improvements

  • Support specialized engineering and lab network environments

End User Support & IT Operations

  • Provide onsite technical support for employees at the Toronto location, including hardware, software, networking, and access issues

  • Serve as a trusted IT partner for local teams, providing timely troubleshooting and solutions

  • Support remote users and collaborate with IT team members across other Waabi locations

  • Participate in the IT Support on-call rotation to provide after-hours support as needed

  • Manage incidents and requests through Jira Service Management, ensuring timely resolution and clear communication

  • Create and maintain technical documentation, knowledge base articles, and standard operating procedures

Endpoint Management & Device Lifecycle

  • Administer endpoint management platforms across Linux, Windows, and macOS devices

  • Support device enrollment, configuration profiles, security policies, application deployment, and compliance reporting

  • Manage workstation lifecycle including provisioning, configuration, troubleshooting, replacement, and retirement

  • Support mobile device management and secure BYOD access workflows

  • Maintain accurate hardware inventory and asset management records

Identity & Access Management

  • Support user lifecycle management including onboarding, offboarding, account provisioning, and access changes

  • Manage and administer identity, access, and collaboration platforms such as Okta, Google Workspace, or similar systems

  • Support group management, permissions, and access policies, including Linux group/permission structures

  • Assist with SSO integrations and SaaS application access management

  • Help implement secure access practices aligned with company security requirements

Security & Compliance Support

  • Support implementation and maintenance of endpoint and network security standards and controls

  • Assist with device compliance monitoring, patch management, and security remediation activities across Linux and networked systems

  • Follow established security processes and help improve operational controls

  • Support audits and compliance initiatives through documentation, reporting, and evidence collection

  • Partner with security teams to investigate and remediate endpoint and network-related issues

Process Improvement & IT Scaling

  • Identify opportunities to improve IT workflows, automation, and employee experience

  • Contribute to scalable processes that support Waabi's growth

  • Improve documentation, knowledge sharing, and support practices across the IT organization

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in IT systems administration, desktop support, or IT operations roles

  • Strong hands-on Linux administration experience (Ubuntu/Debian or RHEL/CentOS), including command-line proficiency, user/permission management, and troubleshooting

  • Solid networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, VLANs, DNS/DHCP, routing, firewalls, and VPNs, with hands-on experience troubleshooting switches, routers, and cabling

  • Experience supporting Windows and macOS environments in a business setting

  • Experience administering endpoint management tools such as Microsoft Intune, JumpCloud, Jamf, or similar platforms

  • Experience with identity and access management concepts, including user provisioning, permissions, and authentication

  • Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware, software, networking, and user-facing technologies

  • Ability to prioritize multiple requests while maintaining excellent customer service

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to document technical processes clearly and with a customer service mindset

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a distributed IT team

  • Willingness to participate in an IT support on-call rotation

  • Ability to lift and move material up to ~50 pounds

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience administering Linux servers in a production or engineering/R&D environment

  • Networking certification (e.g., CCNA) or equivalent hands-on experience

  • Experience with automation and scripting (Bash, Python, PowerShell, or similar) for systems and network tasks

  • Experience supporting a multi-site organization with both onsite and remote users

  • Experience with Microsoft Entra ID, Google Workspace, Okta, or similar identity platforms

  • Experience with SSO integrations using SAML and SCIM

  • Familiarity with security frameworks such as NIST, ISO 27001, or SOC 2

  • Experience supporting engineering, robotics, or specialized computing/lab environments

  • Experience with office buildouts, vendor coordination, and physical infrastructure projects

  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-growth technology environment
