Job Description
Long Wall Company was created in 2025 to accelerate missile defense technology for the U.S. and our allies. Building on the RS1 and GS0 launch systems, Long Wall develops containerized, mass-producible missile defense systems and offers rapid, low-cost flight testing. We believe that the future of global security and stability require defensive technology that is lower cost, higher performing, better tested, and more broadly distributed than is possible today. Join us.

Additive Manufacturing Engineer

We are looking for an Additive Manufacturing Engineer who enjoy solving new and different problems, can work effectively in a fast-paced environment, and shares our passion for building additively manufactured rocket engines.

As an Additive Manufacturing Engineer, you will take ownership and responsibility for growing, maintaining, and optimizing operations at Long Wall's Additive Manufacturing center. You will be driving new parameter development, designing for additive, and driving parts through additive post processes. You will own overall metal production process for printed launch vehicle hardware from build file input to finished part. This includes supporting both development and production builds, effectively coordinating and communicating between customers, engineers, and technicians, as well as implementing incremental improvements and new technologies to maximize product quality and time of delivery.
What we look for
  • Mission-Driven Problem Solvers. The aerospace frontier demands ingenuity. We want engineers who approach challenges with curiosity, embrace failure as a learning opportunity, and stay focused on delivering the best solution for the mission.
  • Total Ownership. We seek engineers who take full responsibility for delivering flight-ready work while recognizing that no one succeeds alone. The best engineers make their teammates better, knowing that complementary skills create force multiplication and drive mission success.
  • RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Serve as a hands-on liaison between design and production teams, supporting production ramp-up for medium/high-volume printed launch vehicle hardware.
  • Oversee metal additive manufacturing processes, from build file preparation to post-processing.
  • Manage scheduling and planning systems to ensure technician teams have clear priorities.
  • Partner with technicians to troubleshoot issues, implement engineering controls, and optimize labor efficiency.
  • Establish and document standardized build processes that meet quality standards, engaging stakeholders to address and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Investigate and resolve non-conformances, track root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop engineering documentation for production transitions, including operational instructions, process flow diagrams, repair plans, and technical drawings.
  • Drive production rate and quality goals, proactively communicating roadblocks to engineering and technician teams.
  • Monitor and reduce planned and unplanned downtime across additive manufacturing machines.
  • Develop and implement tooling and process improvements to enhance reliability, reduce costs, and minimize lead times.
  • BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineer, materials science, or other engineering discipline
  • 1+ years in a production/manufacturing environment
  • 1+ years of metal additive manufacturing experience
  • PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Hands on experience operating laser powder bed fusion platforms
  • Experience working with additive post processes and heat treatments
  • Materials science knowledge of grain structure, grain size, porosity, etc. and how these properties affect a printed component
  • Experience in a fast-paced, iterative design environment
  • Ability to perform manufacturing cost trade analysis optimizing machine capital, labor, and process consumables
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to succinctly present recommendations
  • Able to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment
  • Highly self-motivated and able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Lean manufacturing, or equivalent production optimization experience
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENTS:
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to use a computer to complete assignments
  • Ability to communicate with individuals and groups in person, by phone and telepresence
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will typically work in an office environment
