About Recharged

Recharged is on a mission to accelerate electric vehicle (EV) adoption with the first end-to-end e-commerce marketplace designed specifically for used EV buyers and sellers. Recharged is committed to making electric vehicles more accessible and affordable to consumers, while also serving dealers, fleets, and other companies navigating the transition to electric vehicles.

About The Role
We're hiring our first in-house accounting hire to run the daily accounting work of the business:
deal posting, deal-level gross, inventory and reconditioning accounting, cash, receivables and
payables, and the month-end close. Today this work is done with external accounting support.
This role brings it in-house, sits closer to the stores, the DMS, and the people who originate the
transactions, and manages the accounting process and the outside parties that support it,
including accounting, tax, and audit.

Recharged buys vehicles directly from consumers, at auction, and from dealer and fleet
partners, reconditions them in-house, and retails them through Recharged.com and our
Experience Centers in Richmond, Fairfax, Charlotte, and Jacksonville. The person in this seat
sets the process for how every acquisition, reconditioning cost, and sale gets recorded in our
financials correctly and on time, automates what can be automated with support from our
engineering and operations teams, and confirms the result through reconciliation, so that gross
profit by unit and by store is right the first time and can be used for compensation, investor and
lender reporting, and the audit.

This role works alongside the company's co-founder, our finance lead, and our operations
support teams, and helps shape how the accounting function is built. This person will help
document the accounting process and standardize our operations: how deals move from the
stores into accounting, what gets checked and when, how problems get flagged and resolved,
and standing up an efficient month-end close process. Part of that is forming a view on which
work should have external support and which should sit in-house, and helping us adjust that
split as the business grows. Day to day, it works with sales, inventory, reconditioning, and
remarketing across all locations.

Position Overview

Our ideal candidate is an automotive accountant first and foremost: someone who has posted
deals in a DMS, knows what a complete deal jacket looks like, and has worked a close for a
multi-rooftop dealer. You may have done this inside a dealer group, at an accounting firm
supporting automotive clients, or both, and you want to be the in-house accounting person for
one business. You are disciplined about reconciliations, you track open deal issues and work
with the business teams to get them resolved, and you are comfortable working with store
managers and salespeople who are not accountants. You have opinions about how the deal-to-
close process should run and want to build it.

Required Skills & Experience

● 5+ years of automotive accounting experience, at a dealer or dealer group, at a CPA firm
or outsourced accounting engagement serving automotive clients, or both
● Hands-on experience with deal posting and deal-level gross in a DMS (Dealertrack,
Advent, CDK, Reynolds, or similar), including front-end and back-end gross by category:
vehicle, F&I products, doc fee, and cost adds such as chargers and accessories
● Experience running a month-end close for a dealer: bank and credit card reconciliations,
balance sheet account reconciliations, inventory tied to the DMS, cutoff, and accruals
● Understanding of consumer vehicle acquisition and trade-in accounting: lien payoff
letters, payoff timing and funding differences, title status, and seller payouts
● Working knowledge of reconditioning accounting: repair orders, internal labor and parts,
and how recon cost flows into inventory and vehicle gross. Familiarity with recon
management systems such as Repair360 is a plus
● Working knowledge of accrual accounting. You do not need deep technical GAAP
expertise, but you should be comfortable booking standard GAAP entries and working
with outside support on anything beyond that.
● Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, or equivalent experience preferred. CPA or
CPA track is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

The work below is shared between this role, our finance lead, and external accounting support.
This role takes the lead on the store-facing pieces, such as deal jackets, deal exceptions, and
questions from the locations, and supports the rest. The exact split is not fixed; setting it, and
revisiting it as the business grows, is part of the job.

Deal accounting.
Post retail and wholesale deals daily in the DMS from finalized deal jackets,
with correct front-end and back-end gross by category. Review deal jackets for completeness
and resolve missing or incorrect items with the stores before posting. Maintain the deal-level
P&L report with front-end and back-end split by category. Track deal exceptions, communicate
them to the business ops and store teams, drive them to resolution or recontracting ahead of
month-end close, and flag anything that needs a business decision.
Gross profit reporting.
Reconcile posted gross in the accounting system to deal-level gross in
the DMS each month and document every variance. Apply Recharged's gross classification
policies consistently.
Acquisition and trade-in accounting.
Record consumer purchases and trade-ins at
acquisition, including lien payoffs, funding and payoff differences, negative equity, and seller
payouts. Track title status on acquired vehicles and work with the buying center and title clerks
to clear open items. Support auction, dealer, and fleet acquisitions and remarketing sales.
Inventory and reconditioning accounting.
Reconcile inventory in the accounting system to
the DMS and to physical inventory across all locations, including in-transit units. Track
reconditioning costs by unit through repair orders and the recon management system and
confirm they are capitalized correctly.
Cash, AP, and AR.
Record all bank and credit card activity daily and complete bank and credit
card reconciliations monthly. Manage accounts payable through the bill pay platform, including
vendor setup, approvals routing, and payment runs. Track customer receivables and contracts
in transit from lenders and clear them promptly. Ensure AP and AR reports can be produced as
needed.
Month-end close and financial statements.
Run the close checklist with our finance lead:
deals into accounting on schedule, deal exceptions resolved, all balance sheet accounts
reconciled, debt balances and accrued interest tying, accruals booked, payroll posted to the
correct department and rooftop. Book recurring GAAP-basis entries monthly and work with
outside support on year-end adjustments. Prepare the monthly financial statements (balance
sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flows) for review, and package support so the
statements and the investor and lender reporting package go out on time.
Audit support.
Support the auditors on the year-end audit, including physical inventory counts
and support for opening balances.
Set the accounting process.
Document how the accounting process should run at Recharged:
the path from a signed deal to a posted deal in accounting, what is checked at each step, the
timing cutoffs, and who does what between the stores, this role, the finance lead, and external
support. Recommend which work should continue to have external support and which should be
handled in-house, and help put that split in place.
Strengthen the financial data foundation.
Serve as the accounting point person for the DMS
and its integrations with the recon management system, website, CRM, bill pay, and payroll
systems, and flag when data is not flowing correctly. Document and improve the deal-to-close
process and build the reports the business needs as it grows. Help onboard new locations and
new sales channels, including fleet and commercial, into the accounting workflow.

An ideal candidate has

● Experience on various sides of automotive accounting: in the accounting office of a large
dealer group, and/or at an accounting firm serving automotive clients
● Experience supporting multiple rooftops or multiple dealer clients at once, and the
organization to keep each one clean
● Experience supporting a financial statement audit
● Experience identifying, documenting, and booking write-offs, including uncollectible
receivables, funding and payoff differences, and inventory adjustments, and separating
them from vehicle gross
● Familiarity with the systems side of dealer accounting: DMSs, recon management
systems (Repair360 or similar), bill pay, payroll, CRMs, and the integrations between
them, including a DMS transition
● Comfort using modern and AI tooling to speed up or fully automate routine work, with the
judgment to check the output
● A bias toward rigor over polish. You'd rather chase down why two numbers don't tie than
close the month with an open item
Why Join Recharged
● Startup pace: This is not a dealer group with old-school practices, and it is not a place
where you think about billable hours. Small team, your ownership, decisions made
quickly. If a process does not work, you change it. Get the tools you need, build the ones
that do not exist, and use AI where it saves time.
● Ownership: Command of the day-to-day accounting function at a rapidly growing
company, with a direct say in how it is built
● Build it: Join as our first in-house accounting hire and help shape how accounting works
at Recharged as the company grows
● Growth Potential: As we scale, there is a clear path to growing into accounting
leadership with ownership across the function

Location: Remote, East Coast preferred
Travel: Occasional visits to our Experience Centers and facilities across the East Coast
